The junior is the in between size, longer than a crib and narrower than a twin, and this is the version with the full kit. Low sides hold a small sleeper gently in place with an opening to climb through, and the shelf at the foot keeps the books, the clock and the water cup within reach without getting out of bed.

Every one is made in Vancouver by Sapiens Child from maple and birch plywood, one at a time rather than mass produced, and the wood you choose above, birch or maple, changes the finish and the price, nothing else.

What you are getting

A junior size floor bed at ground level The in between size that bridges the crib and the twin, with the mattress low to the floor.

Low sides with an opening The sides give a small sleeper an edge to settle against, and the opening lets them climb in and out on their own.

The shelf at the foot Holds 40 lbs across four adjustable levels, a built in nightstand for the bedtime pile.

Maple and birch plywood Hardwood plywood, never plastic, with every corner and edge intentionally rounded.

Materials and certification

The frame is maple and birch plywood with every corner and edge intentionally rounded, and no plastic parts. Maple is hand varnished with subtly tinted edges. Birch comes pre finished with a clear coat that shows the grain of each plywood layer.

Sapiens Child states the plywood meets the strict CARB standards for formaldehyde emissions, and marks the materials as FSC certified.

Each bed is made in Vancouver, Canada, one at a time.

Assembly and care

The bed ships flat and the instructions are in the box. Sapiens Child rates the assembly at about 20 minutes. Follow the manufacturer's manual for placement, clearances and any age guidance.

Wipe the frame with a damp cloth and dry it. Check the fixings every few months and after the bed has been moved, and retighten anything that has worked loose.

Birch or maple

The construction, the dimensions, the standards and the weight ratings are identical. The differences are the finish and the price, shown in the picker above. Maple is hand varnished with subtly tinted edges for a lighter, more uniform Scandinavian look. Birch comes pre finished with a clear coat that shows the natural grain of each plywood layer and runs slightly warmer in tone. Neither is the wrong answer.

No. Frames ship on their own so you can choose the mattress. The recommended mattress size for this frame is stated in the description above.

Rails, shelf, or both?

What age is this bed for?

We do not set our own age ratings. The manufacturer's guidance and the weight limit are on this page, and those are the numbers to follow.

Will I be charged customs?
