Most play mats come as tiles. The seams fill with crumbs, and sooner or later a toddler works out how to lift one.

This one is a single piece, five metres long. It rolls out, it wipes clean, and you can cut it to fit your room.

Seven layers, 2.2cm thick Two layers of PE foam and an air cell layer do the cushioning. Ggumbi bonds them with heat, not glue.

Air channels on the underside Ggumbi calls it Aero Road. The face and the back are textured so air can move under the mat. On a mat this size, that is the bit people worry about.


No PVC Ggumbi makes this mat without PVC. It is the difference between this one and the 300 x 110, which has a PVC layer.

Cut it to fit Around a radiator, along a bay window, or straight down the middle. Mark the back, use a straight edge and a sharp blade. Measure twice, because a cut mat cannot be returned.



Wipes clean, stays put Spills sit on top until you wipe them off. The underside has a non-slip coating, so it does not slide on hard floors.

Materials

Ggumbi builds this in seven layers. A textured face, a printed film, an air cell layer, two layers of PE foam, a non-slip coating, and a textured back.

The layers are bonded with heat rather than glue, so there is no adhesive inside the mat. Ggumbi makes this one without PVC.

Laying it and cleaning it

Unroll it and leave it flat for a day. It has been rolled, so it takes a little while to settle. Lay it on a clean, dry floor.

To cut it, mark the line on the back, use a straight edge, and take two or three passes with a sharp blade rather than one. Once you cut it we cannot take it back.

Wipe it with a damp cloth and dry it. Do not use solvents or scouring pads on the surface.

The commonest mistake is buying for the room. Measure the floor you are actually giving over to it.

Flat floor

Anti slip pads need an even surface. Thick pile rugs let the frame rock.

Clear the edges

Keep climbable furniture away, and check what a standing child can reach over.

Fit the band first

Band to the connector on the inside, then the mat. This is what stops gaps opening.

Still supervise

A playpen buys minutes, not permission to leave the room. See Safety First.

Before you buy

Questions we get asked

Does the playpen come with the mat?

No. They are sold separately and sized to pair. The playpen is the fence, the Licoco mat is the floor.

Which size do I need?

200 × 140cm takes one Licoco mat, 200 × 280cm takes two. The table above has the footprints in feet.

Will it slide on hardwood?

The connectors carry anti slip pads with a wide contact area. On the larger layout the anti loosening band makes a noticeable difference.

Can a toddler open the door?

The door uses a double lock button that has to be gripped and held rather than pushed.

How do I clean it?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry it. Neither the PE frame nor the mat surface absorbs spills.
